What is trash in WordPress?

Simply as a computer guy, you know the recycle bin in your computer. It stores all the deleted files and folders from your computer.

Same as in WordPress, trash is the place where you can find all the deleted pages, posts, and comments. It is a temporary place to keep them. This means those files will be permanently deleted after 30 days.

You cannot find this feature on the early version of WordPress. This was introduced from WordPress 2.9 and upward.

By default administrators and editors have permission to delete pages, posts, or comments on WordPress. Also, keep in mind that, the media files are not kept in the trash. Once you delete media files in WordPress, They will be deleted permanently.

How you can access trash in WordPress.

As I mention above, Pages posts and comments are not deleted permanently. It will stay in trash for 30 days.

If you want to access those trash, you should navigate to Pages, Posts or Comments >>All Pages, Posts, or Comments.

Once you navigate to those pages you will see a tab to trash. Simply click on that, you will see all the deleted Pages, Posts, or Comments.

In this section, you have the option to restore or delete that permanently.

How to empty trash in WordPress.

If you want to delete multiple items at once, you have an option in WordPress.

  • First, you have to go to the trash as I show in the above section.
  • Next click the check box next to each item you want to delete permanently.
  • Click the bulk action and select delete permanently.
  • Lastly, click apply button next to it for apply changes.

You can Also, there is another option to delete all the files at once. For that use the Empty trash button at the top of the page.

Keep in mind if you empty trash, you cannot restore any deleted items again.
